Throughout all his art, Romare Bearden wove a rich tapestry of literary, biblical, mythological, popular culture, and western and non-western references informed by his African American cultural experiences. Possibly best known for his collage works, Bearden often worked and reworked the original collage images into astounding prints, pushing the process with his artistic imagination into series of experimental techniques, sizes, and colors. The extraordinary versatility is visible in this exhibition's approximate 75 lithographs, etchings, and prints drawn from Bearden's three decades of graphic work.
