At Friday Nights on June 27, the de Young Museum presents “Milonga en el museo!”, a re-creation of the great Argentine tango halls that still exist in Buenos Aires. A few hundred couples will dance in this “milonga,” bringing the passion, intensity, and sensuality of Argentine tango to the de Young. The dancing will be in Wilsey Court from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The evening also features a screening of the film Breaking the Maya Code in the Koret Auditorium from 6 to 8:30 pm. A question and answer session with director and producer, David Lebrun, and associate producer, Rosey Guthrey, immediately follows the screening. There will be a closing reception for June Artist-in-Residence Ruth Boerefijn in the Kimball Education Gallery from 6 to 8:30 pm. In her exhibition, Drawing in Space, Boerefijn leads museum visitors in creating a ceiling piece that undulates along the length of the gallery and reflects San Francisco’s hills and streets and the movements of sailboats and birds. The entire museum, including the special exhibition Chihuly at the de Young, is open until 8:45 pm for Friday Nights, and dinner and drinks are available in the de Young Café.
