Friday Nights at the de Young
Cultural Encounters: Friday Nights at the de Young celebrates the Opening Night of Lynn Hershman Leeson: No Body Special
Friday, February 1, 2008, 5:00–8:45 pm
Be among the first to experience the exhibition Lynn Hershman Leeson: No Body Special. San Francisco-based artist, Hershman Leeson is a pioneer in new media, and her Internet-based works have won her much acclaim. In No Body Special, she uses a Jean Patou pantsuit from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s extensive costume collection as the vehicle to investigate the nexus of fashion, art, and display. She has created a photography series of images of the pantsuit worn by a variety of models in performances around the city. No Body Special will exist in the galleries and on the Internet, where it will inhabit a “second life.” On February 1, there will also be musical performances by Uni and her Ukelele, Sistah’s in the Pit, Jefrodisiac, and Adrian and the Mysterious D. An art-making project allows visitors to create their own red vinyl accessories inspired by Lynn Hershman Leeson: No Body Special. The entire museum stays open until 8:45 pm. Cocktails are available in Wilsey Court, and the de Young Café serves a special dinner menu, drinks, and appetizers on Friday nights.
Regular gallery admission prices apply on Friday nights. Admission includes access to all festivities including live music and interactive art projects.
