200 N. Boulevard
Richmond, Virginia

This classic feature film captures Pablo Picasso’s working methods and motivations in revealingly intimate detail. Celebrated French film director Georges Clouzot (Diabolique, Wages of Fear) persuaded his friend Picasso to create works spontaneously, drawing and painting on glass and filmed from opposite side. One of the finest art documentaries ever made, the film captures the exhilarating moment and mystery of creativity of the 20th century’s greatest artist while he makes 20 mesmerizing works. Bottles of wine close-at-hand encourage particularly fascinating candid comments between the two. Note: In French with English subtitles, 75 mins. Ticket: $7 (VMFA members $5)
