1,000 people (or more) practicing Yoga on the Mall – in a record breaking attempt – plus music, food, sake, birthday cake for everyone, comedy and much more. All in One Day and all free!

On October 7, 2006, the Freer Gallery celebrates a 100th anniversary of Asian art with a “sunrise to moonrise” Asian-themed party. The day kicks off at 8:00 a.m. with “Yoga on the Mall,” an attempt to break a record for the largest yoga gathering in the United States. Noted yoga instructor John Schumacher, founder and director of DC’s Unity Woods Yoga, leads the hour-long session, with help from DC’s leading yoga instructors. Yogis of all levels are invited to bring a mat and friends and participate in this historic event. Other highlights include a Fes Festival of World Sacred Music; jazz by the Rudresh Mahanthappa Quartet; and a Sake tasting in the Freer courtyard. The festivities end with stand up comedy by Vijai Nathan, America’s leading Indian American female comedian, and Frank Hong, a member of the DC Comedy All-Stars. The Freer Gallery opens early at 9:00 a.m. and remains open for extended evening hours until 10 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
