Scott, Charles Gibson Distinguished University Professor of History and Professor of Law at the University of Michigan, tells the story of “Rosalie of the Poulard nation,” from enslavement in Senegambia, through slavery in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, exile to Cuba in 1803, and a return to independent Haiti.
