Host: Mercatus Center. Ed Gresser, Director of the Trade and Global Markets Project at the Progressive Policy Institute on his book Freedom From Want: American Liberalism and the Global Economy discusses how American liberals who oppose globalization have unwittingly turned their backs on the poor. By reaching back to the American tradition of liberal internationalism, Mr. Gresser’s book seeks to restore the liberal vision of the global economy.
Mr. Gresser served as Policy Advisor to U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky as well as a Policy Director for Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.) between 1993 and 1998. As a project director at the Progressive Policy Institute, his major research focuses include economic relations between the west and the Muslim world, East Asian integration and American trade relations with China, the U.S. tariff system and its effects on low-income families and least-developed countries as well as many other topics.
