About Radu Pieptea
Since making his solo orchestral debut at 14 in Dallas’ Meyerson Symphony Center, Radu’s musical talents have continued to garner critical acclaim and recognition. Das Orchester in Germany called his performance “brilliant” and “flawless” and described his interpretation as “daring and full of fiery temperament...with a strong sense of purpose.” Lauded by the Santa Barbara Independent, Radu is described as “astonishing,” and the Los Angeles Times commended him for his “firm tone” and “technical proficiency and musical resolve.”
Radu has appeared as a soloist with the American Youth Symphony, La Mirada Symphony, Pacific Palisades Symphony, Beverly Hills Symphony, Allen Philharmonic, Max Bruch Philharmonic, the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and various other orchestras and ensembles. He served as concertmaster of the Sarasota Music Festival orchestra and has been a featured chamber musician on New York’s classical music radio station WQXR. Radu has performed in recital and as chamber and orchestral musician in countless concerts across the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has been heard live on radio in recital on the Sunday’s Live series broadcast from the LA County Museum of Art, performed solo at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion as a winner of Los Angeles‘ Spotlight Awards, and performed as part of the New York String Orchestra in Carnegie Hall. After graduating from Juilliard in 2000, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and continued his studies with renowned violin pedagogue Zakhar Bron at the conservatory in Cologne, Germany while concertizing throughout Europe. After returning from Europe, Radu collaborated regularly with UCLA faculty on their Faculty Chamber Music Series and served as guest artist faculty of the Beverly Hills Chamber Music Festival.
Radu is currently active as a recording musician in the Los Angeles studios and has recorded on the soundtracks of major motion pictures too numerous to list. Although his background is rooted in classical music, he has also recorded or performed with artists as diverse as U2, Dr. Dre, Barry Manilow, Andrea Bocelli, Christina Aguilera, Beck, Jewel, 50 Cent, REM, Elvis Costello, Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston, Harry Connick Jr., Michael Buble, David Foster, Kenny Loggins, Sarah Mclachlan, Counting Crows, and Earth Wind and Fire, to name a few. Over the past several years, Radu has been performing regularly with the LA Opera, LA Philharmonic, and Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and most recently won a position as first violinist with the New West Symphony.
Radu’s musical education includes a Bachelor of Music degree from Juilliard, a Diploma in Music Performance from the Cologne Music Conservatory, and a Master of Music degree from UCLA which he received while there on a full scholarship. Born in Romania he moved to the United States with his family when he was 2 and began his violin studies at the age of 6. His most notable teachers include Robert Mann, Alexander Treger, Zakhar Bron, Mark Kaplan, Ronald Neal, and Masao Kawasaki. Radu is also an active teacher and coach and has given masterclasses abroad.
About Bryan Pezzone
Bryan Pezzone is the consummate crossover pianist of his generation. He has excelled in classical, contemporary, jazz, and experimental genres and is known for both his versatility and virtuosity as a performing artist, improviser and composer. Bryan performs with composers and musicians as diverse as Pierre Boulez, John Williams, and John Adams, and records on countless film and television soundtracks. He is the pianist in the group Free Flight; a crossover classical/jazz quartet. These concerts feature many of his own compositions. In addition, Bryan has initiated a performing series that he calls “FREEDOM SERIES” which involves improvisations and verbal musings on life. Bryan has performed with many major symphony orchestra associations, and is known in the Los Angeles area as one of the primary freelance pianists for film and television soundtrack recording, contemporary music premieres, and chamber music accompaniment. As a soloist, Bryan has performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Pasadena Pops, Santa Monica Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute Orchestra, United States International University Orchestra, U.C. Irvine Symphony Orchestra, Eastman Philharmonic and the Pacific Symphony.
Bryan has produced CDs of his own. Along with introspective solo music in “Piano Prayers”, he has also collaborated with M.B. Gordy on drums and Bart Samolis on bass, to make music that blends jazz and classical styles in "Flying on Water," produced by Steve Wight.
In addition, Bryan has been principal pianist in the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra from its inception in 1991-1999 as well as the former chair and founder of the Multi-focused keyboard department at the California Institute of the Arts from 1987-2000. He abandoned both those positions in order to discover new paths. Bryan is passionate about continuously redefining himself and his role as an artist, musician, and person in today’s complex and eclectic culture.
