Though thousands of light years away, neutron stars and pulsars act as precise cosmic beacons. They are cosmic gifts that shed light on some of the most interesting problems in modern science and serve as important tests for extreme physics, including Einstein's theory of relativity. In her March 15th public talk at the University of Toronto, Professor Victoria Kaspi, McGill University, will describe these fascinating objects and show how astronomers are using them to gain insight into the origins of the Universe and the very nature of matter. Telescopes will be set up after the talk to view the night sky, weather permitting.
