Free Community Percussion Concerts and Seminars on Saturday, Aug 4 with Jeff Olson

Musician and Composer, Jeff Olson will hold two free percussion concerts on Saturday, August 4th at the Starbird Music Mall in Portland. Teacher Jeff will give two 45-minute mini- concerts with lectures and handout materials. Both performances are free and consist of two parts. The first part (11AM-11:45AM) will be a charming music performance for children performed by Olson and following will be a lecture that entails information about music for children (as young as newborn to age 18 months and children over age 2). Children of all ages are welcome to attend. Part 2 (12:15PM- 1:00PM) will also begin with a performance by Olson, emphasizing marching percussion, drum set techniques, and the rock component. Olson will follow with a brief lecture on marching percussion and Q&A regarding custom music lessons. Both shows demonstrate orchestral, mallets, drum set and electronic percussion. This is an exciting show for all ages, replies Jeff Olson. The lectures and performances begin at 11AM at the Starbird Music Mall located at 525 Forest Avenue in Portland. Both shows are free to the public.

Bio

Teacher Jeff is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. He holds a Bachelor of Music cum laude in Film Scoring and Music Education. Jeff is a published recording artist in Rock, Jazz, Orchestral and Electronic fields on over 14 records and discs.

Mr. Olsons awards are The 1999 Ruth Page Award for composition, The Berklee Achievement Award, The Berklee Professional Music Award, The Berklee Steve Smith Award for Drummers and appearances with Drum and Bugle Corps on PBS television.

Mr. Olson teaches percussion, drums, piano, beginning guitar and brass (with live interactive text), teacher duets and computer studies. In addition, he also teaches composition/theory/ear training, music synthesis and the special Very Young Pianist series.

Since 1974, Jeff has been touring, teaching and studying his craft. From May and June 2007, he returned from a spring European tour in Athens, Paris, London, Budapest, Munich, Hamburg, Amsterdam and the Sweden Rock Festival.
