In the extremely popular films of Frank Capra, a Sicilian who came to America with his family when he was a child, the American Dream always borders on disaster. Capra tapped into what the public wanted during the Depression: high quality 'feel good' movies with heroes who were 'little men' who triumphed over big business and corrupt politicians. Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, You Can't Take It With You and It's a Wonderful Life are classics of their type and as much loved (by most) today as ever they were. There's a very dark side to Capra, though, which will be explored by a survey of his career - and the screening of three of his films in full. Details of this event may be subject to change.
