Han S. Park is university professor of international affairs and director of the Center for the Study of Global Issues (GLOBIS) at the University of Georgia. His research is focused on the issues of human rights, sustainable development and East Asian politics. He has appeared as an expert analyst on CNN International, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer on PBS, ABC?s World News with Peter Jennings, ABC?s Nightline, BBC and NPR. He currently serves as a consultant/analyst for ABC News. His most recent publications are North Korea: Ideology, Politics, Economy (1996, edited) and North Korea: The Politics of Unconventional Wisdom (2002).

Park has visited North Korea some 40 times since 1981 and has been traveling there with increasing frequency since the nuclear program controversy first erupted in the early 1990s. He has initiated and participated in informal negotiations designed to alleviate the tensions on the Korean peninsula, including a high-level Track-II meeting for participants from North Korea and the United States held at the University of Georgia in November 2003. He also has led a U.S. agricultural team to P?yŏngyang to explore bilateral technical and scientific cooperation, and hosted a reciprocal visit to the U.S. by an agricultural team from North Korea. In the humanitarian field, Park was the organizer and founding president of Uniting Families, Inc., an organization that helps separated families in China and Korea reestablish contact.

Born in Northeast China to immigrant Korean parents, Park received his education in China, Korea and the United States, and holds degrees in political science from Seoul National University (B.A.), American University (M.A.) and the University of Minnesota (Ph.D.).
