Impact of Escalating Energy Prices and Availability on Urban Communities to be Discussed by Former Sebastopol Mayor This Friday

San Francisco, CA November 13, 2006 - The second in a series of city hearings on peak oil will take place this Friday, November 17, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in room #263 of San Francisco City Hall at a hearing of the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo).

Larry Robinson, former mayor of Sebastopol, California, will speak on the efforts that city has undertaken regarding the effects of resource depletion, and how these may apply to San Francisco.

In addition, representatives of San Francisco Oil Awareness will give an overview of how other municipalities (including Portland, Seattle, Bloomington, Indiana, and others) have taken steps to mitigate the impact of future energy decline. The San Francisco Department of the Environment will discuss a future study on the effects of peak oil on the city. A resolution will be announced that will be presented to the Board of Supervisors regarding the creation of a peak oil task force. City departments will be at the hearing to discuss any preparations they might have in place to mitigate effects of a long term energy crisis.
