Akin to Handel's Messiah, this family-friendly modern oratorio will provide entertainment, enrichment and inspiration to Northeast Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and beyond. The CROWN JEWEL of this performance is a 100 VOICE Multi-Racial, Multi Ethnic Choir and a roster of profesional musicians who have been garnered from several parts of the United States.
The virtuosity of FORGIVEN is found in the musical gifting of its writer and producer DARREN THOMAS, whose credits include musical placement on/with The Billboard Music Charts, Two Presidential Inaugurals, the Christian Embassy of Jerusalem for the Jubilee Festival in Israel and Latin Grammy winner Soraya Moraes. He is a recipient of the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers Award for major network peformances on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN & C-SPAN and many other accomplishments.
The 120 minute performance features various expressions of music including, Neo-Classical, Gospel, Latin/Brazilian, the Caribbean sounds of the Steel Drums and the World Music sounds of the African Marimba and African Drums. ALTON MERRELL, Music Director, holds both a Master of Music Degree in piano performance and a Bachelor Degree in Music Education from Youngstown State University. JACK CIARNIELLO serves as Orchestrator and conductor of the string and brass instruments. He is an associate professor at Youngstown State University College of Fine & Performing Art for Digital Recording. He is also an accompanist for the Warren Symphony and Youngstown Symphony Orchestra.
Other Musicians include: LORENZE JEFFERSON, bass; MICHAEL DAVIS, guitar; BRIAN PAPPEL, keyboards; GEORGE JONES, percussions; all of Pittsburgh, PA; KENT BARRETT BARNES, drums, Youngstown, Ohio; ALEXANDER HINES, JAMAL SIMON, JOEL WILLIAMS African Drums, Youngstown, OH; VICTOR PROVOST, Steel Drums, Washington DC; CHRIS BARRICK, African Marimba, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, Ohio; plus other talents musicans on strings and brass.
Other Performers include: TINA WATSON of Chicago, IL, most noted for her incredible soprano range and performances with Grammy Award winning Milton Brunson & The Thompson Community Choir; TIM SLAUGHTER comes with an awesome tenor vocal from Detroit, MI; PASTOR JUAN RIVERA of New Life Church, Poland, Ohio joins the vocal cast, CHRIS FITZWATER, a pristine tenor from Charlottesville, VA; JOYCE A. JONES of Youngstown, Ohio most noted for spirited performances on many of the songs penned by Darren Thomas for Bishop Norman L. Wagner & The Mount Calvary Concert Choir and the awesome APRIL NEVELS of the Word Network Gospel Focus winning group The Nevels Sisters of Youngstown, Ohio. Many other notable and gifted performers make up the other lead vocal and background vocal performances of this oratorio which has its sights set on a national tour, a master performance at The Kennedy Center and The United Kingdom.
