The American Cancer Society and the Indiana Prostate Cancer Initiative invite Central Indiana Men to Health Awareness Seminar
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – October 7, 2009 – The American Cancer Society and the Indiana Prostate Cancer Initiative are inviting men to attend a For Men Only Fellowship Brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 at Eastern Star Church, 5750 E. 30th Street.
The brunch will focus on prostate health and the importance of good nutrition. The brunch will also feature Pastor Jeffrey A. Johnson, Sr. of Eastern Star Church who will be sharing his story of surviving prostate cancer. In addition to the brunch, free prostate cancer screenings will also be available from 10-11 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m.
“With many health related seminars often geared toward women, we wanted men to have something that was just for them,” said Yolanda Wide, community program representative, American Cancer Society. “Our hope with the Men Only Fellowship Brunch is to engage them in topics such as prostate health and good nutrition. Men are often reluctant to visit with their doctor for routine examinations and recommended screenings. We want husbands, brothers, fathers and grandfathers to be equipped with the proper knowledge, so that they will feel at ease talking with their doctor about health related issues.”
The event will be available to 200 men who are at least 35 years of age. Pre-registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, please contact Yolanda Wide at 317-344-7800.
