From the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 to the USA Patriot Act – Post 9/11. Do you know how America 's immigration policies affect you? Why become a U.S. Citizen? The right to vote empowers Asian Pacific Americans by giving us a voice in the community. Join attorneys Tammy Peng and Betty Chu in an intimate discussion on how we can empower Asian Pacific Americans through the naturalization process.

Speakers:

Betty Chu-Fujita is an Associate in the Business Immigration Law Department of Wilner & O'Reilly. She provides guidance and direction to senior management and foreign nationals concerning their employment-based petitions. Betty received her law degree from Loyola Law School and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from UCLA. She is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association, and the Organization of Chinese Americans. Betty is also president of the OCA – Orange County Chapter.

Tammy Peng is an attorney with the LA-based Asian Pacific American Legal Center, now heads the Orange County office as a policy advocate. Tammy works on issues affecting the API community on both local and state levels, including language rights/access and needs for legal services. Tammy is a graduate of Whittier Law School, an alum of both UCLA and USC, receiving a B.A. in political science from UCLA and an M.A. in print journalism. (But she always identifies herself as a Bruin!) Prior to joining APALC, Tammy worked as a research attorney for the Orange County Superior Courts in civil, family and juvenile law, and was in private practice before that.
