What links the minimalism of American composer Steve Reich, guitars that sound like insects and tennis player Andy Roddick? The answer is Foals. The explanation is a bit complicated; in fact, there's no time to get into it here. What matters is that FOALS is a 5-piece art-dance-rock band from Oxford, England; they're riding a wave of critical buzz around Europe and North America; their debut album, Antitodes, was recorded with TV on the Radio guitarist/producer David Sitek and released by Subpop; and their live performances don’t so much fizz with energy as explode like a well-shaken bottle of champagne. It’s no exaggeration to say they are the best new live band in the UK--come see 'em while they're in Madison. Opening is WORRIER: a genius mishmash of noise guitar, ethereal atmospherics, driving bass lines and dance beats brought to you by former members of Forsake Ya to the Snakes and Free Diamonds.
