Flutter! will have hundreds of exotic butterflies fly freely amid colorful tropical plants and flowers on exhibit in the Zoo's Public Greenhouse. Butterflies native to Central and South America arrive weekly in chrysalis form (butterfly cocoon) from a butterfly sanctuary in Costa Rica. They hatch in a special chrysalis case inside the Public Greenhouse so Zoo visitors may witness the amazing transformation from chrysalis to butterfly.Large and brightly colored, the exotic assortment of species includes the blue morpho, yellow apricot and pink cattle heart butterflies. Zoo visitors will also learn interesting butterfly facts (did you know that butterflies taste with their feet and that butterfly wings are actually transparent?) and information on butterfly conservation.
