FINE ARTIST AVANI PATEL
FEATURED IN SOLO SHOW
OPENING FEBRUARY 19, 2005

?Fluidity Interconnected ? A language of expression? is a new exhibit of work by artist Avani Patel.

The paintings that she is exhibiting explore the boundaries between eastern and western culture. ?Indian Culture is the starting point of my work?, says Patel. ?My work, effectively symbolizes the rhythm of life?.

Inspired by Indian music, dance, and the spectacle of Hindi theater, Patel uses abstract figures that form patterns on her canvases. ?Dance repeats the movements of the body, and the contour line of the figure becomes an abstraction that is reflected in my paintings.?

Patel guides her paint brush in gestures reminiscent of Indian dancers, creating imaginative forms, such as spidery figures, flowers, and delicate snaking marks that inspire a language of expression. ?In my paintings, I take rhythmic movements to an imaginative place. Different forms and shapes create a story similar to Indian dance, and the paintings become an independent event?
Avani Patel received her Bachelors of Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University, and her Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and Drawings from Temple University?s Tyler School of Art.

Currently a resident artist at Chasama, she keeps an active exhibit schedule and is also a member of Department of State's Art in Embassies Program. Ms. Patel is currently a featured artist in the United States Embassy in Panama.

The opening of ?Fluidity Interconnected ? A language of expression? will be on February 19 from 5:00pm to 9:00PM at the 43 8th Avenue Gallery and runs through February 28th.
