Double Treat!!!
We drove 4.5 hrs to Tampa to see Tito Puente, Jr and received 2 wonderful treats in one. The Florida Orchestra gave a wonderful performance with 4 broad selections included were songs from the opera Carmen, a tribute to NY and the ever wonderful medly of songs from West Side Story (a very personal favorite). Intermission and then Tito Puente Jr's band began their songs. Tito came out dressed as his father used to in his legendary garb of white dinner jacket, black bow tie and pants. His performance was a tribute to his famous "Mambo King" dad and played his songs. One of which was "Oye Como Va" which was composed by the senior and recorded by Santana years later. Jr came out ready to bang the timbales and took off! He introduced and gave praise to his band members who performed with precision and timing. They did a remarkable job in getting the Latin beat into the hearts of those who sat and watched. There were just 2 vacant seats next to me (second row Orchestra center) and it took all I had not to get up and start dancing. The theatre was packed and most if not all patrons were dressed to impress. It was great!!!
