Florencia en el Amazonas January 29, 2009

The Moores Opera house at the University of Houston is presenting Daniel Catan's opera Florencia en el Amazonas. Written in 1996 this opera was premiered at Houston Grand Opera and since has been seen in Seattle, Cincinnati, and Mexico City. Florencia has been described as "the opera Puccini would have written if he had moved to Brazil". It has lush flowing melodies with a hint of Debussy's surrealism.

The opera is being performed Jan. 29th, 31st, and Feb. 2nd at 7:30 and Feb. 1st at 2:00.
