The Peninsula Symphony presents a cultural explosion of Spanish music and dance, featuring Carolina Lugo’s Brisas de España Flamenco Dance Company and legendary Spanish guitarist Angel Romero, accompanied by the Peninsula Symphony. The sizzling sounds and fiery rhythms of this program evoke images of Spain in full splendor.

During the first half, the stunning Flamenco dance company, Brisas de España, will dance to some of the most electrifying music that brings images of Spain to mind. Perhaps the greatest of all Spanish composers, Manuel de Falla, is represented with two powerful works: the Interlude and Dance from “La Vida Breve,” and the Suite No. 2 from the Three Cornered Hat. Bizet’s Carmen Suite and Chabrier’s España complete this exploration of the colors and rhythms of Spain.

The second half of the program focuses on the national instrument of Spain, the guitar, as played by the greatest of Spanish guitarists, Angel Romero. Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez is beloved by audiences and is perhaps the greatest guitar concerto in the repertoire. Its driving rhythms and soaring lyricism make an indelible impression.

Performances are on January 16 & 17 at 8pm at the Fox Theatre in Redwood City and the Flint Center in Cupertino. Tickets are $34 General admission and $29 Senior/Student. Visit http://www.peninsulasymphony.org or call (650) 941-5291 for tickets.
