Flamenco Dance and Music at the Mercury Café in:
“Valentines Date Night”
DENVER – January 21, 2011-- Maria Vázquez will perform an evening of Flamenco dance and music, bringing the passion and soul of southern Spain to Denver. The performance will take place on February 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Mercury Cafe 2199 California St Denver, CO
Among the featured performers at this performance are Jesus Munoz, a Flamenco dancer. Jesus has quickly developed a national reputation as a sought after teacher and performer. He has a strong, masculine, traditional approach to Flamenco based on his training in both Spain and New Mexico, and is a gifted teacher and communicator. Jesus began training in New Mexico and later had intensive studies with Charo Cruz, Juana Amaya and El Torombo. He began working professionally with the Yjastros Dance Company out of Albuquerque and later had opportunities to serve as a choreographer for International Company Maria Benitez’s Teatro Flamenco and Artist “in resident” for NYC Company Carlota Santana’s Vivo Flamenco. Jesus has performed throughout most of the USA, Canada and Spain as a dancer/choreographer and palmero.
Steve Mullins, multi-instrumentalist, is perhaps best known for his fabulous flamenco guitar work . He teaches World Music at Colorado University and is a columnist for Mandolin Magazine
Meagan Chandler has always had a passion for music, singing, dance, teaching and travel. A native of Boulder, Colorado, she has traveled to Spain, Morocco, New Zealand, India and beyond in search of the essence of the art forms that have shaped her. Her studies over the past 16 years include Spanish Flamenco, as well as Jazz, Mid-East and Balkan music and dance. Her flamenco experience includes intensive time in Jerez de la Frontera. Megan currently works for Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana's Project Ole, bringing flamenco to schools around the country, as well as performs, records, leads workshops and teaches privately in Colorado and New Mexico.
Maria Vázquez is a Denver-based dancer from Seville, Spain. She is licensed in Spanish Dance from the Conservatory of Dance in Seville. Maria has extended the community’s interest in flamenco through her performances and classes in Denver and surrounding areas since her relocation in 2002.
