The I. Functional Nanocoatings Conference in the frame of EXCELL NoE 515703-2 FP6 project is intended to provide a platform for researchers to exchange information and ideas and to map the latest developments and trends in this emerging area of nanotechnology. It intends to play a role in bridging the gap between scientists and engineers by raising awareness of the importance of nanotechnology applications.

Nanocoatings and ultra thin films are leading examples of nanotechnology, making a difference in a wide variety of applications–from improving safety in cars to bacteria-resistant coatings.

Special emphasis will be paid to surface functionalisation for tailoring properties to achieve high performance in the final application. Nanocoatings with inorganic and organic materials will be highlighted which enhance for example tribological, hard, wear and corrosion performance.

Lecturers are encouraged to present the connection between preparation and the functionality in specific applications.

Focus

  • How nanotechnology approaches can be used to design and to create nanostructured functional materials?

  • How can advanced nanocoatings systems meet the challenges of different industries?

Topics

  • Hard, wear-, heat-, oxidation-, corrosion- and scratch-resistant coatings

  • Superhard Coatings, relationship function-nanostructures

  • Surface functionalisation

  • Self-assembly at interfaces

  • Design and modelling at nanoscale

  • Biocompatible nanocoatings

  • Bioactive nanostructured coatings

  • Multifunctional nanocomposites

  • Characterisation techniques at nanoscale

  • Innovative nano-fabrication

  • Ageing of metal/plasma polymer nanocomposite films

  • Ultra-thin corrosion resistant plasma polymer films
