In today’s engineering product world, quality and cost plays a big part to ensure the success of the product. FEA enabled designers to check against deformation of the structure, stress, vibration and/or temperature specifications and this in turn will help to identify and rectify the existing problems and reduce unnecessary cost.

Although FEA is a functional analytical tool, there are, unfortunately, limitations to the tool. The most significant limitation is that, the accuracy of the obtained solution is usually a function of the mesh resolution. Therefore, any region of highly concentrated stress must be carefully analysed with the use of a sufficiently refined mesh. In addition to that, there is also a limitation of the data that is produced, such as buckling, large deflection, rotations, and exclusion of materials’ non nonlinearities in the FEA results.

In view of the rising significance of FEA in the engineering domain, this course aims to provide an overview of FEA, the different types of engineering analysis, various elements types, constraints methods, loading types, just to name a few. Real life case studies will be discussed in the course to provide a more practical application of FEA theories and techniques in the real world situation
