The Fine Art Collection is the largest of the museum's four collecting areas. It includes works of art either created by African Americans or that relate to the history or culture of African Americans. The strengths of the collection are works by 20th century contemporary artists with ties to Georgia. The museum seeks to augment the collection with works by 19th and 20th century master artists such as Jacob Lawrence and Henry O. Tanner.
