During World War II, Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, a small village in the mountains of France, chose to resist the Nazis’ persecution of Jews even as the French government fell.
Inspired by the local pastor, André Trocmé, the villagers, mostly Huguenot Protestants who identified with similar persecution in their own families’ past, collectively saved 5,000 Jews from the Nazis.
Pierre Sauvage’s Emmy-award winning film tells the story of his birthplace whose residents protected his family and thousands of others from deportation.
