Film: The Unknown Woman April 15, 2009

Screening of the film Italian "La Sconosciuta/The Unknown Woman" (115 mins/2006) with English subtitles, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. Synopsis: Irena, a Ukrainian prostitute on the run to find a job of a domestic help for a family in northern Italy. She befriends Gina, the nanny of the family's child, Thea. Through flashbacks, viewers learn that Irena has been abused, physically and emotionally, and forced to bear nine children, all taken away at birth to be sold to adoptive families. After killing her pimp, Irena sets out to find her youngest child, whom she believes is Thea. Hence, the plot to work for this family in Italy, to find her daughter.
