Documentary film maker Thomas Riedelsheimer shows us land artist Andy Goldsworthy as he creates art outdoors using natural materials such as driftwood, ice, mud, leaves, thorns, sticks and stones. Goldsworthy is simple and spontaneous, yet direct and painstaking as he creates his breathtaking natural wonders.

His outdoor work is often fragile and temporary, but he also makes more permanent creations such as his sculpture at the Meijer Gardens, entitled “Grand Rapids Arch.” Riedelsheimer takes us to Goldsworthy’s home in Penport, Scotland, and to a French museum, but the emphasis of the film is on observing Goldsworthy at work in nature, on cold days and warm, in rain and snow, touching the earth and in tune with its flow.
