Fete de la Musique - Concert. The Fete de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, which is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. The Fete de la Musique began in France and has since spread to over a hundred cities around the world. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Minsitry of Culture in France, created on 3rd February 1959 with Andre Malraux as its first minister. Quite understandably the theme of this year is '50 ans de chansons francaises' - 50 years of French Songs. Both amateur and professional musicians take part enthusiastically and perform in street corners, in parks, in the corridors of the metro. The slogan Faites de la musique (Make music), a homophone of Fete de la Musique, is used to promote this goal. Many free concerts are organized, making all genres of music accessible to the public.
