Celebrate the Arts when the Corpus Christi Arts & Cultural Commission improves the quality of life and promotes tourism with its annual Festival of the Arts. The Festival of the Arts, is celebrated annually on the last weekend in March with several days of free attractions that showcase local and internationally recognized artists and offers tram tours of the city’s permanent downtown art collection.

Hosted by the Arts & Cultural Commission, on the Bayfront, at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, the festival will once again "Chalk it up for the Arts" and include something for everyone. The Festival of the Arts will feature artistic and cultural individuals that provide an exciting array of talent. Patrons enjoy presentations of contemporary and folk dance, independent film/cinema, ballet, poetry, theatre, musical entertainment, stunning visual art exhibits, sand sculpturing and an art-full KidZone for those 12 and under. Kids of all ages enjoy the Italian Street Painting created by internationally recognized artists. The event includes artists and organizations, in addition to on site food vendors, artisans, craftsmen, workshops, and lecture demonstrations.

Returning guest artist, Julie Kirk,will share her expertise and fascination with the ephemeral technique of street painting, creating a 12ft x 15ft street painting in the courtyard of the Art Center over the course of the festival days.

Julie Kirk, commissioned to complete murals, sculptures, graphic works and paintings for individuals and organizations, currently participates and is recognized internationally in street painting events. In 2003, she was awarded 1st Place, Semplici Division, in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy. She is a faculty member at California State University.

Educational street painting workshops will take place all day Thursday & Friday and on Saturday morning. Attendees will have the opportunity to observe a 30-minute power point presentation, interact with an Italian Street Painting artist and create artwork with chalk pastels and observe Italian Street Painting in the making. Space is limited and registration is required. Saturday workshop is limited to High School, College and University students and Adults. The Opening Ceremony & Guest Artists Reception is Friday 26th from 5:30-8pm.
Meet and welcome all featured artists, Galleries will be open for viewing, live music, refreshments.
FREE event and open to the Public.

The events on March 27-28 are focused on featuring dance, music, visual art, film & cinema all in one location over the course of one fantastic weekend so tourist or resident, young and old can experience and enjoy the Arts. This community event provides cultural activities that are free to the public and is sponsored in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Downtown Management District.
