Laurence Anyways (2012, 160 min) by Xavier Dolan
In French with English subtitles
With guest speaker Hank Sartin, Senior Editor Time Out Chicago

Xavier Dolan’s first film, J'ai tué ma mère / I Killed My Mother, earned the Quebec director three awards from the Cannes Director’s Fortnight in 2010 when he was barely 20 years old.

His third movie, Laurence Anyways, is a sumptuously orchestrated love story about a transsexual man's decade-long struggle to maintain a passionate romance with his female soulmate in the face of creeping hostility from friends, family and society.

Quebec beer and cheese will be served before the screening.

In partnership with the Festival du Film Francophone de Kalamazoo, curated by Vincent Desroches from Western Michigan University.

Sponsored by the Canadian Consulate General in Chicago and the Quebec Government Office in Chicago.
