Nightwood’s notorious celebration of International Women’s Day returns!
March 8, 2007 at 8:00pm
Brigantine Room, Harbourfront Centre
Since 1983, Nightwood has presented The Five-Minute Feminist Cabaret, lovingly known as FemCab, the only party in town where politics and art come together in an irreverent, humorous and shameless celebration of women’s success!
Nightwood Theatre is thrilled to announce award-winning journalist, Carol Off, as this year’s Keynote Speaker. Host of CBC’s As It Happens, Carol has covered conflicts in Afghanistan and around the world and has written and produced award-winning documentaries and books - and won the prestigious Dafoe Foundation Award in 2005.
Joining Carol, FemCab’s funny-girl co-hosts are Teresa Pavlinek and witty-woman Dawn Whitwell.
FemCab 2007 features an unbeatable line-up of talented women including: Canada’s dance diva Peggy Baker, comedienne Joanne O’Sullivan (writer of WNetwork’s The Smart Woman Survival Guide), Catarina Cardeal (who brought Fado, Portugal’s heart-wrenching equivalent of the Blues, to Canada – notably on CBC’s Opening Night), Masia One (a hip-hop/rap sensation who was nominated for a Much Music Video Award), Tamara Podemski (dynamo singer/songwriter/actor who has garnered multiple awards), the enchanting Sonja Smits (star of over 35 TV series and programs, including Street Legal, Eleventh Hour and Traders), Motion (Singer, writer & dub poet) plus a few surprise performers! Guiomar Campbell, diva of Afro-Brazilian music, and her ensemble join FemCab as the house band.
Please join us on March 8th for our raucous salute to the extraordinary achievements of women across the globe!
