Fatlip's birth name is Derrick Stewart. He started performing with the alternative hip-hop group The Pharcyde in 1991, recorded two critically aclaimed albums with the group before leaving in 1995 to pursue a solo career, which has so far produced two singles for Delicious Vinyl. One of these singles, 'what's Up Fatlip,' became an underground hit thanks to a video made with Spike Jonze.
