276 North El Camino Real Suite D
Encinitas, California

FasTracKids, located at 276 North El Camino Real, Suite D, will host two free FasTrack Signing classes for parents and their babies and toddlers in February. On Sat., Feb. 17 at 9 a.m. and Wed., Feb. 21 at 6 p.m., parents will learn introductory American Sign Language and playtime tips for an understanding of early communication possibilities and expectations.

FasTrack Signing, developed by Signing SmartTM, is designed for parents or caregivers and their hearing infants and toddlers, ages six to 24 months. The classes use play and song to teach little ones how to use their hands to communicate well before verbal skills are developed. Parents also learn strategies for achieving success in having their child sign back as quickly and effectively as possible. Being able to communicate wants, needs and interest without having to wait for the development of the fine motor skills involved in speaking has several very real and relatively immediate benefits for families, says Dana Weiss, center director, FasTracKids Encinitas. Parents typically notice that the use of signs reduces child frustration, miscommunications and resulting tantrums. The Signing SmartTM strategies used in the FasTrack Signing class have also been shown to facilitate spoken language, expand vocabulary and improve general learning abilities.

Older children between the ages of two and four are welcome, and will participate in a separate FasTrack Tots Discovery class. In the free class, children will participate in experiments, role-playing, and many hands-on activities, while having fun learning about biology.

Reservations for the popular signing event are strongly recommended, as seats are limited. Please call Center Director Dana Weiss at 760-632-7700. There will be an opportunity to continue with a 10 week FasTrack Signing play class. Schedules and information are available at sdenrichmentplace.com.
