The Western Reserve Association for the Preservation and Perpetuation of Storytelling’s second annual Family Storytelling Day on September 15, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be held at the historic Sandstone Village, located at 763 Milan Avenue, Amherst, Ohio.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. followed by an olio of short stories by Joe Conrad, Karen Duchoslav, Janelle Reardon, Julissa Reyes and a youth teller before the workshops begin. Registrants have a choice of three morning and three afternoon workshops that will be culminated in a storytelling concert at 2:45 p.m.

In the morning, Karen Duchoslav will be making links between writing and telling, Dave Cotton will do his workshop on storytelling, poetry and theatre, and Julissa Reyes, will inspire youngsters with her professional telling of folktales. A range of opportunities to learn and to listen will be offered.

At 11:30 a.m. Barb Sutton will facilitate an adult story swap and Bev Stives, clown and storyteller will conduct the puppet workshop, “Make it, Take it, Tell it Puppet” for young registrants.

In the afternoon, Joe Conrad will show the ways in which men can be involved in storytelling, Janelle Reardon will demonstrate ways to use fables, and Jim Wilhelm will tell the story of the historic fire house.

A concert will take place at 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. with the following storytellers: Mary Jane Bloom, Neva Gael Brandon, Donna Marie Kuczynski, Judy Riggle, Barb Sutton and two youth tellers.

Registration is $10 and includes lunch, $5 for children, with a maximum of $20 per family. Concert only tickets are available for $5. Family members and story listeners can tour the historic 1848 Harris-Dute House, the new/old fire house, and explore the hexagonal barn.
