Join us for Family Day highlighting the dance and culture of Jonkonnu!

Jonkonnu is a musical street masquerade, originating from West Africa, which occurs in many towns across the Caribbean on December 26 and New Year's Day. During Jonkonnu festivals people dance from midnight until dawn in costumes made from cardboard covered in tiny shreds of bright crepe paper.

Visit the Education Center and learn to make your own colorful Jonkonnu-inspired mask. Stop by the Heritage Center to relax and hear a MoAD storyteller read “Jonkonnu: a story from the sketchbook of Winslow Homer”.
