Ferdinand the Bull (2004)* Hugh Aitken (1924 - )

Based on the book The Story of FERDINAND by Munro Leaf and drawings Robert Lawson.

Narration of Munro Leaf's classic tale of the gentle bull, Ferdinand and how he deals with the world of Spanish bullfighting. The New York Chamber Soloists commissioned the work for children, Ferdinand the Bull, from noted American composer Hugh Aitken.

Given Ferdinand's Spanish background, the balance of the program has been chosen from composers who demonstrate the vitality, excitement, and character of Spanish rhythms and music, including works by JoaquĆn Turina, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Manuel de Falla, Domenico Scarlatti, and Georges Bizet.
