The Chicago office of Facing History and Ourselves, in partnership with The Allstate Foundation, is proud to present an evening of commentary by Daniel Jonah Goldhagen, expert lecturer and author of the international best-sellers: Worse Than War: Genocide, Eliminationism, and the Ongoing Assault on Humanity (PublicAffairs, 2009) and Hitler’s Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust (Vintage, 1997). Making a rare Chicago appearance, political scientist and public intellectual Daniel Goldhagen will examine the phenomenon of genocide in Rwanda, Bosnia, Guatemala, the Holocaust, and other contexts. Excerpts will be screened from the major documentary, Worse Than War, which was recently broadcast on PBS, and is based on Goldhagen’s themes of re-conceptualizing, understanding, and finally stopping genocide.
