FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 25th, 2011. Presented by Ground Lift Media, FACE MELT is a new monthly event series which showcases envelope-pushing artists on a local, national, and international level. The 2011 programming schedule includes Live Bands, Live PA sets, DJs/Turntablists, & Touring Acts spanning genres like Dubstep, Glitch, Electronic, Hip-Hop, and Beat-related. And if that’s not enough, the resident roster boasts some of Chicago’s finest talents –Maker (Stonesthrow, Now-Again), Phaded (Dubfix), & DJ Intel (The Comeups, Platter Pirates). Hosted by ADaD (All Natural, Eulorhythmics).

Positioned to be the defining voice in a rapidly evolving musical environment, FACE MELT continues for it’s fourth installment May 27nd at Darkroom (2210 W. Chicago Ave. 9pm, $10, 21+) featuring live performances by Auburn (Eliot Lipp x Vyle), Abyss (Push Beats) & DJ C (Mashit.com).

When talking about Hip-Hop or any of the countless genres it has influenced, it’s all about the beats. Even after a producer loops ‘Amen Brother’ for the millionth time, it will always be about the beats. They’re the foundation of Hip-Hop, and the defining characteristic of any artist or genre claiming Hip-Hop as inspiration. And at FACE MELT, they’re the only thing that matters.

As if he’s already plotting to bring an MPC to his cousin’s quinceañera, Maker explains the underlying motivations of FACE MELT as “a gathering of different styles, cultures, and scenes that are all related… It’s like a family reunion but with hard ass drums.” Simple enough concept but reading between the lines, you may want to consider ear plugs!

Produced in conjunction with Cold Grums Productions, Crowdnoize.com, Frank151 / Chicago Riders, & Do312.

AUBURN BIO:
One part homage, one part upheaval; Combining top-forty sounds, the music we grew up with, and material that’s simply ingrained within themselves as artists, AUBURN’s output is intricate and sophisticated. Consisting of Eliot Lipp and vyle., two of today’s most dynamic artists, continuously steer their appropriate genres by pushing forward. Meeting in Chicago some years ago, vyle and Eliot meet over a common interest in heavily augmented rap music, post-modern art, and vintage synthesis.

In the late aughties however Eliot and vyle stood apart, in different genres, vyle touring and working in North America with Drop The Lime, TeKi Latex, Busy P, Flosstradamus, Kid Sister and Eliot doing the same working and touring the world with Prefuse 73, Alex B, Machinedrum, Lazer Sword and many more, the artists held court at the forefront of their respective genres. “Throughout the years I’d get feedback from Albert on tracks and vice versa. In 2002 He’d always pick out the ones I wouldn’t expect him to; the super techno or the acid-type ones,” comments Lipp. “So when we finally got serious about working together, it was the natural direction to pursue.” In 2010 Auburn’s material reflects the next direction rap/hiphop/electronic/party/bass music/whatever you wanna call it is going to be in the next decade.

Signing with Box Of Milk Recs, they now travel between New York and Chicago, bouncing ideas and synth lines to each other, go to modern art museums, troop through shopping districts and thrift stores in any city they can while working on their album “D/A/T/A/S/E/T/T/E” due out in mid 2011.
