The Expressive Arts Therapy Program is a series of 4 Therapy classes. Each class is a 6 week series. Each Therapy class meets once a week for 6 weeks. The Therapy classes are 90 minutes long.

Expressive Art Therapy is a therapeutic use of arts as a way to foster human growth, develop self awareness, insight and self express, facilitating positive life change and enrichment. Art Therapy differs from art as activity.

The Cancer Center at Chandler regional Medical Center will provide cancer patients and co-survivors with music therapy, journaling, therapeutic movement and therapeutic art with the following goals/expected outcomes:

Decrease anxiety, stress and pain. Increase positive mood, body awareness, and emotional health. Increase physical and emotional strength. Build social network for support and facilitate the mind and body connection.

*Art Therapy: Will offer opportunity for self expression regarding the cancer journey through various artistic modalities such as painting, sculpture, drawing, etc. All art material will be provided at no fee.

*Journaling: Journaling will be offered as a tool for personal growth, life management and creative expression in support of healing and well being. Journals and materials will be provided at no fee.

*Music: A variety of activities will be offered. Activities include listening to music, composing lyrics to reflect thoughts or feelings, developing a personal visualization tape or having the therapist sing or play songs of the patients choice. The music instruments and equipment will be provided at no fee.

*Expressive Movement Therapy: The therapeutic movement and dance component will be offer self-expression and exploration utilizing gentle body movements. The Therapist will provide music and the means to play it. Materials will be provided at no fee.
