Nguyen Qui Duc's solo exhibition of mixed media works, “Exposure & Memory,” opens at Togonon Gallery Sept. 7 and runs through Sept. 23.

Nguyen Qui Duc’s work simultaneously captures the familiar and the strange. His images reflect both an obsession with travel and the solitude of a traveler. What he creates from photographs, polaroid print images, found objects, and paintings, are expressions of memory, fragmented realities, and dreams.

While an artist-in-residence at Villa Montalvo, California, Nguyen discovered the art of polaroid transfers and has been experimenting with this process since 1995. He uses techniques that lend a worn quality to the images, instantly relegating each captured moment to a time lost. A journalist and writer, Nguyen also devotes his time to visual art projects. Since leaving his native Viet Nam, he has lived and worked in several countries. This is his last exhibition before returning to Viet Nam to live and pursue various creative interests.
