Exposition of the Heart, directed and choreographed by Folawole, is a an innovative combination of dance performance, live music and visual art that seeks to raise awareness about abused and battered women by exploring themes of consciousness and rebirth. This work, which is being developed in collaboration with the Women’s Building in the Mission District of San Francisco, brings together the stories of female and male characters whose experiences are personally individual and commonly resonant.  Breaking the cycle of violence will be explored through a mixture of solos, duets and unexpected group dances. The performance includes five different acts created to highlight the strengths and skills of each artist and expose the power and inner strength of all women. This performance will bridge new choreography and improvisation with masterful artists, using a warm yet innovative approach to deepening audience engagement. Exposition of the Heart is dedicated to Ashley Taylor, a radiant heart whose life was recently lost.
