The craft bazaar speaks volumes of what could have otherwise gone unheard. The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, or Poompuhar is out with another exhibition. And every time they do so, it’s the voice of the artisans that gets lifted in progression. The ongoing exhibition at Alwarpet has specially displayed wooden carvings, bronze idols, brass lamps, Tanjore paintings, leather artifacts and the likes doing its rounds, in the accustomed fashion, calling all art and handicraft devotees to take a look at the burgeoning racks of Maharashtra Nivas. With 19 states taking part in the exhibition, a discount of 10 percent is something that comes as a pleasant surprise for all the customers. What gets the attention of the people is perhaps the 7 and a half feet tall rose wood pooja mandapam and the 6 feet Tanjore paintings, apart from the replicas of Raja Ravi Varma’s works. Also on sale are Rajasthani bed spreads, artificial jewellery, Kashmiri wooden artifacts, Jaipur painting, showpieces in stone and brass, tie and dye sarees, kurtas, gold plated and shell jewellery, semi-precious stones and white metal articles.
