As part of the opening of YAS, this discussion focuses on the current projects of these renowned Spanish architects and the challenges they face in designing and building. They discuss how an idea develops into a large, complex project over time, rooted in continuous research on materials, structures, spaces, color, light, and the cultural environment.

Free & open to the public

With 62 design projects from all over Spain, the exhibition Young Architects of Spain (YAS): A Window to the Unknown displays the extraordinary quality of work of a generation of Spanish architects under age 40. Two common threads throughout their work are their buildings’ rigorous construction and their sensitivity to their surrounding environments, whether natural or cultural. They have erected structures with these characteristics in many places both inside and outside of Spain—for example, Shanghai, Oaxaca, and Budapest. These diverse places have been made better for their residents and visitors, thanks to mark these young architects have left behind.
