Exhibit: Shreddings September 2, 2010

“Shreddings”, the work of German-born artist Abraham Gelbart, will be exhibited September 3 through November 20, 2010 at the Las Cruces Museum of Art. An artist’s reception will be held during the Friday Ramble on September 3 from 5:00-7:00pm.

“Shreddings” includes oil and watercolor paintings, prints and sculpture and is “based on the premise that identity theft is all around.” The series began as sculpture, but soon evolved to include paintings allowing the artist to represent the physical nature of “data” and “shreddings” that can be stolen easily in 2-D form. The goal of Gelbart’s work is “to develop ideas through time and to enable those ideas to spawn new ones.”

Gelbart’s background is in both architecture and interior and industrial design. His works are on permanent display at the New York Public Library in New York and at the Yale University Library in New Haven, Connecticut.

As of June 1, new gallery hours are 9:00am to 4:30pm Tuesday through Saturday. The Museum of Art is closed Sunday and Monday.
