Kathleen Carricaburu is exhibiting “Contemporary Fine Art Jewelry” at The Las Cruces Museum of Art. Opening on June 4 and running through August 21, 2010, a reception will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 from 5 to 7pm.

Kathleen Carricaburu, a MFA candidate at New Mexico State University in the arts/metal program, will present jewelry and fine metal sculptures as “poetic objects.”

Ms. Carricaburu, a resident of Utah, received her BFA at the University of Utah in 1990. Since then, she has taught silver-smithing at the Kimball Art Center. Her work has been exhibited throughout Utah and has received many awards.

The inspiration for Ms. Carricaburu’s work is “the beauty of nature, through the lens of culture and history…” She continues by saying that, “…using metaphor is about capturing the essential nature of an experience.” Ms. Carricaburu explains her choice of materials by writing, “I love the fact that I am working with elements such as minerals and fire and that it moves, bends and transforms sometimes from solid to liquid and that there is always an element of risk.”

Funded by the City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street at the north end of the downtown mall.

As of June 1, new gallery hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm Tuesday through Saturday. The Museum will be closed Sunday through Monday. For more information, call (575) 541-2137 or visit the website www.cruces.org/museums.
