Minneapolis-based rockers, Evik James Band, have been quickly making a mark on the local music scene. Since their first gig in December 2009 at the Terminal Bar, Evik James Band has played ten shows at local venues, including The Fine Line Music Café and O’Gara’s Garage. The band also has a full spring schedule planned and one highlight will be playing at Whiskey Junction, 901 Cedar Avenue South, Minneapolis on Saturday, June 19th as the closing band for The Belfast Cowboys. The Belfast Cowboys are regulars at Whiskey Junction and will kick off the show at 9 p.m. Evik James Band will wrap up the evening with their high energy set from midnight to close.

EJB will be playing songs from their indie rock debut album, Under Your Sun. They will also be playing new songs including the title track from their follow up release, Sucks To Be You, often referred to as their “warm and fuzzy song,” due out in mid-June. According to James, both albums contain songs about “life, death, and the crazy sh*t that happens in between,” including the alt-country crowd favorite “Kill That Woman,” a song about the frustrations of a failed relationship and a tongue-in-cheek stab at resolution.

The Evik James Band is a “gritty power pop” rock trio, playing original music written mostly by the band’s namesake, lead vocalist and guitarist, Evik James, who is sometimes referred to as “Buddy Holly on steroids.” James grew up in San Francisco’s East Bay and is a graduate of the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, California. Michael Fiato, bass and vocals, cut his teeth in the NYC music scene and has performed and recorded with notable groups such as the Silly Pillows and Bouva. Jeff Thaves, the trio’s drummer, is a Minnesota native and has played with a number of original and cover bands in and around the Twin Cities.
