Every house has a door is a recently formed company by Lin Hixson and Matthew Goulish (both formerly of Goat Island) to create project-specific collaborations with invited guests. Their first Chicago performance, 'Let us think of these things always. Let us speak of them never.' is a multi-faceted dance-theater work about utopian beliefs, created with two performers from Chicago - Goulish and Stephen Fiehn - and two from Zagreb, Croatia -- Selma Banich and Mislav Cavajda. This innovative performance is co-comissioned by the MCA and was developed in part through a creative residency at the MCA Stage. Under the direction of Lin Hixson, the performers seek common ground between their experiences in America and Croatia. They find it through a shared reference, the films of Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman along with his influence on Yugoslavian filmmaker Dusan Makavejev. A historic lecture Makavejev delivered at Harvard University and his erotic and seminal film 'Sweet Movie' (1974) are explored. Using the film and texts as the basis of their choreography; a delicate, sometimes funny balance is found as they engage with the histories of utopianism and revulsion/revolt in an unjust world.
