Ettrick
San Francisco's Ettrick is a self-destructive free jazz/black metal assault featuring two multi-instrumentalists rotating through every permutation of their drum and sax duo. Jacob Felix Heule and Jay Korber explore the extreme sounds that can be wrenched from their instruments through brute force – screaming through saxophones, throwing drums and other such impolite extended techniques. The doubled instrumentation provides a situation to explore playing contrasting and complimentary styles on like instruments.
“...a bludgeoning amalgam of black metal and skronk sure to summon the apocalypse... an excruciating free jazz that feels like being trapped in a metal shed during a thunderstorm.” -- San Francisco Bay Guardian

MNFIW (Mysterious Notes Found in Wreckage)
Est. Fall 2004 : MNFIW has many incarnations original spawned from A 4-piece Heavy Post-rock group called Dreams & Aaron Thomas's own Lo-fi home ambient recording ala tape experiments / re-wiring pedals / mixers etc. The basis for the band began to change in early 2005 turning into an outlet for all our private work, and since most of us are friends intense collaborations began to take place. It seemed like every show we grew as an ensemble musically and personnel wise. The largest group reaching a 14-piece for the IED:14 a tribute to the Ornette Coleman at the wonderful Astor Theatre. The smallest being our 2nd show as a 3-piece, drums / electronics / guitars at the not so wonderful Mad Planet. Whether large or small we always seem to meet the task of making some poor soul pass out due to Volume levels. Throughout the years we have had the luck & Timing to collaborate with some of the most talented musicians that the Midwest has to offer to name a few free jazz percussionist Joshua Phillip Lesniak, Jason Wietlispach bass, reeds, etc, Hal rammel Amplified pallet and other misc homemade instruments, Jazz Bassist David Gelting, Guitarist Davis white of The fames math-rock group Mahoghany Throttle, Jazz Guitarist Joshua Stemper, Brent Budsberg bass, John Gleisner drums, Experimental musician Alex Kmet. The list goes on, we are eternally grateful for your friendship.
